I first started pregnancy yoga just after my 12 week scan. I’d never done yoga before and the studio wasn’t open due to lockdown so all the classes were online. I was nervous at first about attending but Tessa was welcoming and put me at ease.
I looked forward to the weekly online classes and being able to come home from work, get my comfy clothes on, light my candles and relax for an hour with baby.
Tessa’s knowledge on pregnancy and giving birth was invaluable. After the classes I always felt relaxed and more comfortable that I would know what to do when baby was coming!
On Sunday the 9th May around lunchtime I started to feel uncomfortable but thought it was braxton hicks and took a few paracetamols before we set about going to the tip and Asda. When we got home from shopping my partner was convinced I was in labour so phoned the midwifes at Burnley. From the hypnobirthing course we had done I knew I wanted to stay at home for as long as possible. I used the breathing techniques both Tessa and hypnobirthing had taught me whilst having a warm bath.
After a few hours my contractions were getting longer and more intense so we decided to go the hospital.
The midwife checked me over and I was 6cm dilated so they ran the pool whilst I bounced on a birthing ball.
From the classes with Tessa I knew the positions that would help baby along and concentrated on my breathing.
I felt calm and relaxed through out my labour and at 10.04pm baby Sebastian arrived!
Pregnancy yoga definitely helped me prepare both physically and mentally for labour and gave me the confidence that I could do it!
