I gave birth to my beautiful boy in 2016, before Tessa had opened her yoga studio. I had a very long and difficult birth which resulted in an ambulance ride from Blackburn Birth Centre to Burnley Hospital, a forcep delivery in theatre, a third degree tear and a 3 day hospital stay to help me recover. When I became pregnant in 2019 I was understandably a little scared about the delivery. Luckily for me, Tessa Clemson Yoga Studio was up and running and delivering pregnancy yoga. I began attending classes at around 14 weeks and loved it, I loved the time I had connecting with my baby and also being around other expectant mums to offer each other support. It taught me to relax and stay calm, to breath properly and to listen to my body. Towards the end of my pregnancy the country went into national lockdown and classes were delivered online until Tessa gave birth to her beautiful baby girl Frances. I have known Tessa since school and it was lovely to experience pregnancy together. On the 15th June 2020 at around 7pm my waters broke and my labour began. I didn’t feel panicked, I knew this time round was going to be easier. My contractions started at around 9am the next morning, I was able to stay at home with my husband until I felt the contractions were too strong to deal with at home. We arrived at Burnley Birth Centre at 1pm, I was 9cm dilated at this point and ready to get into the pool to deliver my baby. I allowed my body to do what it needed to do and I concentrated on my breathing which I had learnt in yoga. At 2.15pm, Pippa was born without the help of pain relief. I think yoga helped me to bond with my baby, relax during the birth and assisted with recovery afterwards too.
